For 3 – 5 year olds
The Montessori Preschool Program is a mixed age setting for children 3 to 5 years of age. We offer two alternative sessional preschool programs: a Full Program and an Afternoon Program. Children attend for 2 years, as 3 year olds and 4 year olds, in the same group. An optional 3rd year is available for children who need an additional year before commencing school.
The Full Program
We have three Full Program groups. The session times are:
- Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 12 noon (3, 4 and 5 year olds)
- Extended Day additional hours*:
- 2nd year preschool children (4 year olds) – 12 noon until 2.30pm for 2 days
* Participation in Extended Day is subject to the Montessori Director’s assessment of the child’s readiness for the additional hours.
The Afternoon Program
There is one Afternoon Program group. The session times are:
- Monday to Thursday 12.30 pm to 4.15 pm (3, 4 and 5 year olds)
As with our Early Learners’ Programs, our Preschool Programs also provide a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where the children can follow their natural tendency to work and learn.
The objectives of the Preschool Program:
- Foster a love of learning
- Facilitate social engagement with peers and adults
- Further develop and consolidate the child’s independence
- Practice life skills, critical thinking and problem solving;
- Help develop concentration and self-regulation through engagement in purposeful work
- Introduce the child to mathematical concepts in a concrete form
- Help develop spoken and written language skills
- Increase the child’s awareness of the natural and social world
- Provide the opportunity for creativity and self-expression
- Further develop physical co-ordination and manual dexterity
