KMC Celebrates Reconciliation Week

KMC Celebrates Reconciliation Week

During National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June), many of our children attended the Dreamtime Storytime organised by the Manningham Council at the Bulleen and Doncaster libraries. Children delighted in the traditional Dreamtime stories, songs, dance and craft activities presented by Eva-Jo Edwards, a proud Mutti Mutti/Yorta Yorta woman.

Eva-Jo displayed some of the Aboriginal tools, e.g.: boomerangs, didgeridoo, rhythm sticks, possum skin, bark that was used as a cradle etc., whilst highlighting how they take only what is needed from nature. The children then had an opportunity to dance to some Aboriginal music whilst pretending to be a kangaroo, emu and eagle. Uncle John read two Aboriginal stories and ended the program with some handpainting. The children were provided with a few animal printed sheets which they enjoyed colouring in.
